SOFT SPOT ALPACAS
Huacaya (pronounced wah-KI-ya) is one of two breeds of alpacas, with the other being Suri (pronounced SOO-ree) which Soft Spot Alpacas raise at Yellow Star Ranch and Farrago Ranch. Alpacas are gentle and curious creatures and produce one of the world’s most luxurious natural fibres. At Soft Spot Alpacas, they adore their alpacas and strive to keep them as healthy, happy, and as stress-free as possible.
Soft Spot Alpacas is the joint effort of two alpaca farms: Yellow Star Ranch and Farrago Ranch. They met in 2016 and became friends through their shared love and respect for animals. The needs of their alpacas always come first, and they always strive to provide them with the best care and comfort. Yellow Star Ranch and Farrago Ranch are located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.
The majority of their products come from the fleeces of their loved and happy alpacas. They shear the alpacas and some of the fibre they process themselves and some of the fibre is processed in a mill. Alpacas need to be shorn each year for their health and comfort. If they aren’t shorn, they suffer from severe overheating and all the potential difficulties that may cause for their health and welfare.
The Soft Spot Alpaca team then knits, crochets and felts. Alpaca fleece has exceptional insulation properties and exceptional softness, plus it’s hypoallergenic! Alpacas are low-impact foragers and their fleeces are a sustainable resource, making alpaca products an eco-friendly choice.
