Alison creates wheel thrown pottery. Each piece is made originally each time, as she does not use moulds. She trims the bottoms of each piece and pulls the handle of each mug. She does not use an extruder or any templates. Each handle is attached considering the size, shape, and balance of each mug.

“My work is functional first, enhanced by the beauty of glazes based on chemistry. I care very much how something works – how balanced the handle, the right volume of liquid or food, the right weight when full to lift it. I want the user to enjoy, be inspired and enlivened by using a beautiful object in everyday life. To me it is was makes life more – more fun, more full, more cool, more meaningful… I make each piece, every time, with intention. No two will be the same, non-identical – unique. All of Alison’s work is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe, but dishwashers are hard on pottery glazes… pottery ages, like everything. The glazes she uses are recipes that she has developed over 25 years. She mixes them from multiple chemicals and natural oxides and colourants.
