Sherah was inspired by her love for candles, the discovery that most candles aren’t clean burning or safe, and her involvement in a non-profit based in Rwanda to create a candle using local beeswax & sustainable coconut wax. They started Misiyo Candle Co in November 2019 as a social enterprise crafting a fresh take on container candles. Every candle they sell gives back 1, 2 or 3 months of health insurance to someone in Rwanda.

They chose beeswax because it is the most locally sourced and sustainable wax available. They source their beeswax in Alberta and blend it with sustainable coconut wax. They have been perfecting this blend since February 2019 and feel it is a proprietary and unique wax that burns super clean with a warm flame and negative ion-releasing properties.

Sherah blends their scents herself using clean fragrances and essential oils. There is a whole process to their testing, which involves first blending the oils and then pouring them with wax and then testing the scent throw etc once the candle has cured and then adjusting the amounts and repeating as necessary.
