“Through the years I’ve explored different mediums but have always found myself gravitating to the natural world. As a child, I would often bring home little treasures from the beach or the forest. In 2013 I started working with burl wood, looking at ways to incorporate the beauty of the unique grains into fine jewelry. A birch burl was my very first piece which led to the launch of Birch Artisan Studio.
I am rooted more firmly each year in the desire to respect, preserve, protect and honour our beautiful Mother Earth. I believe we are stewards of this land and it is our responsibility to care for it.” – Krista Smith
